Tim Heidecker has announced a new album: Slipping Away, due on October 18th via Bloodshot Records. Today, along with the announcement, he’s released the music video for the album’s lead single, “Well’s Running Dry.”
Following 2020’s Fear of Death and 2022’s High School, the new album will see Heidecker continue to explore resonant themes with vulnerable lyricism, tapping “into universal anxieties, familiar settings, and, occasionally, a blast of apocalyptic unease,” according to its press release.

Recorded with his The Very Good Band — and featuring an appearance by his daughter, Amelia — Slipping Away’s music captures the raw chemistry of musicians playing together live. “My favorite records are the ones that were just recorded in a room with a band playing,” Hedicker explained, citing Bob Dylan and The Band as influences. “And that’s what we did.”
Reinforcing that energy, the music video for the single “Well’s Running Dry” begins with footage of Heidcker and the band getting set up in the studio, working out the arrangement for the song on the spot. Lyrically, the song describes the struggle of writer’s block, which Heidecker worried wasn’t “cool to talk about” at first. “But, a second later, I thought, ‘Well, that’s challenging and exciting,’” he explained. “Let’s push past that.”T
As a whole, the new music seems like it’ll be a fitting entry in the annals of Heidecker’s creative accomplishments. “People ask me a lot about the difference between making music and comedy,” he said. “I finally got to a point where I was like, ‘Let’s stop thinking about these things as genres.’ It comes out in different formats but hopefully it all becomes one big thing that I’m making. I think it’s fairly united.”
Meanwhile, Heidecker is booked for several upcoming live performances opening for Waxahatchee and Snail Mail on the East Coast. Grab tickets here.
