Tish Cyrus has admitted she didn’t want her marriage to Billy Ray to end in divorce.
The manager and producer, who was married to Billy Ray Cyrus between 1993 and 2002, has told how she tried to make her marriage work “for too long.”
She made the comments on Kate and Oliver Hudson’s podcast, Sibling Revelry, on Monday.
“I never wanted to be divorced,” the 57-year-old admitted.
“(But) for us, you’re in the public eye and the world that we exist in is already so odd, and at some times unstable. I wanted to make it work, probably for a little too long, like, for my own mental health. There became a point that, like, I didn’t have a choice.”
The couple share daughters Miley, 32, Noah, 24, and son Braison, 30. Tish also has two children from a previous relationship, daughter Brandi, 37, and son Trace, 35, both of whom were adopted by Billy Ray.
Tish admitted their split was “tough on everyone,” even though their children were adults when their parents finally called it quits.
The couple had previously filed for divorce in 2010, and again in 2013, but went on to reconcile.
“I was an only child and had the best upbringing and best parents and never went through anything like that,” Tish said.
“So I don’t really know how it affects you, but… it was definitely something that was probably hard on them, no matter how you do it. And I think that we did it really well. I think I did really well, and I do think that I just wanted it to be the easiest as possible for everyone involved.”
Tish married Prison Break star Dominic Purcell in July last year.
Billy Ray, 64, married singer Firerose last October. They split seven months later, with the star filing for an annulment, citing irreconcilable differences and “inappropriate marital conduct.”
