Tommy Lee underwent successful hand surgery to correct a Dupytren's contracture and carpal tunnel problems stemming from decades of drumming.
Lee, never one to shy away from sharing graphic images of himself, posted some pretty gory images of the entire procedure from start to finish, including some open surgery photos that should be viewed discreetly.
“Well, kids, it's time for show and tell…” Lee wrote in his instagram post, “I hope this doesn't ruin your lunch. Just 3 weeks ago, @drcohenhandsurgeon had hand surgery on me. He addressed 2 debilitating issues for me as a drummer, keyboard player, and pretty much everything to do with my right hand. And yesterday was fucking monumental for me to the point of crying…. I have got my life and my money makers back. And to you drummers and musicians, I can tell you that it can be fixed!”
The Mötley Crüe drummer now says he can spin his drumsticks again, one of his signature techniques, after being unable to do so for years due to Dupuytren's contracture, a disorder that can cause the ring and little fingers to bend. After surgery, Lee said his finger is no longer bent.
The drummer added: “I haven't been able to do that in a few years due to Dupytren's contracture and carpal tunnel problems that are now gone! @drcohenhandsurgeon and the staff there I AM FOREVER GRATEFUL.”
