Tony Hale is no stranger to working alongside some of Hollywood's biggest stars thanks to his work on projects such as Veep, Arrested Development, Inside out and more. However, it's not every day you get to star alongside Beyoncé in a Super Bowl commercial.
The actor appeared in Verizon's iconic 2024 Super Bowl ad that confirmed Bey had Cowboy Carter on her sleeves. The subtle ad finds comedian Hale challenging Bey to do something so big, it “breaks” Verizon's 5G internet service. To do this, she does many activities such as running a lemonade stand for fans, playing the saxophone, introducing her own 'Beyonc-AI' technology, parodies Barbie as “Bar-Bey” and announcing her candidacy for “Beyoncé of the United States” — but nothing worked.
Bey then decided that announcing new music was the only way to go. “Okay, they're ready,” he says from a rocket ship. “Put on the new music.”
“They called me and said, 'Hey, do you want to be in a Super Bowl commercial?' Hale recalled learning about the “Queen” gig during an interview Monday night (July 22) on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “I was like, 'Yeah,' and they said, 'She's with a music artist.' I was like, 'Great.' They said 'Beyoncé' and I said 'Excuse me?'”
He continued, “I'm finally doing something cool that my daughter thinks is cool, but I couldn't tell her because I signed an NDA.”
However, he still found ways to tease the look for his daughter. “Actually, they teased me in front of a lemonade stand and he immediately picked it up and said, 'Daddy?' And I just sent a bee emoji.”
