The Super Bowl-bound Kansas City Chiefs have a deep history with the championship game. In the mid-60s, team founder Lamar Hunt led them to the first Super Bowl, for which he is credited with coining the name. They have since returned several times, including in 2020 when they won their first Super Bowl title in 50 years against the San Fransisco 49ers. They'll be back later this month, facing the 49ers again, but this time, they have a secret weapon on their team: Taylor Swift.
According to the last New Heights podcast episode, hosted by the Chiefs' Travis Kelce and Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, the pair of brothers decided that congratulations were in order for the singer. “Also, shout out to the newest member of the Chiefs Kingdom — Swift — who officially made it to the Super Bowl in her rookie year,” Jason joked in response to viral posts about Swift, who has been dating Travis for a few months. “Shout out to Tay,” Travis added with a laugh. “Thanks for joining the team.”
Travis and Swift were photographed from every possible angle as they celebrated on the field after the Chiefs defeated the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday to win the AFC Conference Championship. Super Bowl LVIII will take place in Las Vegas on February 11, and Swift's potential appearance seemed to generate more buzz than the team's own achievement.
Swift will continue her Eras tour with four shows in Tokyo, Japan in February. The last of those shows at the Tokyo Dome is scheduled for February 10, the night before the big game. But luckily, sports reporters have already done the legwork to crunch the numbers and time zones to make sure it can take off the show.
“Taylor Swift performs in Japan the night before the Super Bowl. It will end around 10pm Tokyo time (5am Las Vegas time),” reporter Darren Rovell he tweeted. “The flight from Tokyo to Vegas takes 12 hours, which means the Swift can arrive at 5pm local the day before the Super Bowl, 25 hours, 35 minutes before kickoff.”
Give or take a few hours, the math seems to add up. It also helps that Swift has her handy private jet, which generated an estimated total flight emissions of 8,293.54 tonnes of carbon in the first few months of 2022.
