Queens emcee Truth formerly of the trio Gods'Illa teams up with Da Beatminerz for his debut solo EP. The year after the group's full debut Believe in Gods'Illa However, he would go on to create a solo discography for himself From Ashes to the Kingdom Come. He then followed that up 3 years later, dropping out of the sophomore effort The fight for survival as For all intents and purposes. The latter of which was also produced by Da Beatminerz in its entirety and was not only my personal introduction to Truth's music, but one that I enjoyed more than his previous work. So with that in mind I was sure to enjoy it Nostalgia TheEraPy as much if not more than that previous LP.
“Truth Is” really sets the tone for what's to come by laying battle bars over dusty boom bap production, while “Lock & Load” works on an eerie loop of kicks and snares aimed for the kill. “Spit It” featuring Al Skratch & Kurious finds the trio over a blood-soaked boom bap beat encouraging you to speak your mind just before “Here & Now” brings in the horns that boast they'll tear down any stage anywhere.
To kick off the 2nd leg of the EP, “Da Beatminerz Sound” has to be my favorite track out of the bunch, as Truth reminds me of being matched with Mr. Walt and DJ Evil D is a lethal combination over that raw instrumental they're known for before “Won By One's Will” go the symphonic route, telling you to kneel to the pharaoh. “Queens Carnivores” featuring Royal Flush kicks off the encore with that bluesy sample repeating their spaces, and “Calling” ties everything together with a fun twist on being busy.
Even as a 9 track EP running at 27 & only 3 features, Da Beatminerz continue to bring the best out of Truth because this is another pretty impressive project from them. It's like a hot plate of hip hop comfort food that happens to incorporate some new herbs and spices courtesy of the chefs involved, all by design as Truth continues to evolve lyrically over the traditional east coast boom bap sound.
