Universal Music Group (UMG) has settled a lawsuit over the King Crimson sample in Kanye West's “Power,” Law 360 and Variety report. Declan Colgan Music Ltd (DCM), the owner of the engineering rights to the prog rock band's '21st Century Schizoid Man', had sued the music label in 2022. The parties have now settled the matter out of court, with DCM receiving payment , according Variety.
Kanye West's 'Power' famously samples King Crimson's '21st Century Schizoid Man'. In its original complaint, DCM and its lawyers argued that UMG was paying DCM an insufficient rate for streams of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy song.
