Usher has returned to one of the biggest stages in music for a headlining performance at the 2024 Super Bowl Halftime Show, which included guest appearances by Lil Jon, Ludacris, Alicia Keys, and more.
Marking the second time Usher has performed at the Halftime Show (thanks to his guest spot during The Black Eyed Peas’ performance in 2011), the pop star took charge at Super Bowl LVIII, taking the stage for a display of gyrating, roller skating, and pop nostalgia. Running through some of his biggest hits — like “My Boo,” “OMG,” “Yeah!” and more — Usher’s showmanship and the energy of his guests carried the performance, almost making up for the fact that the television mix was sub-par.
In addition to Lil Jon, Ludacris, and Keys, Usher was joined by the likes of H.E.R. — who provided a Prince-esque guitar solo — Jermaine Dupri, will.i.am, and more. Watch clips of the performance below.
Usher first announced that he would be headlining this year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show last September via a series of videos featuring Kim Kardashian, Deion Sanders, and Marshawn Lynch.
This year’s halftime marks the fifth time that Jay-Z’s Roc Nation produced the show. Speaking about Usher in a statement, Jay-Z said “Usher is the ultimate artist and showman. Ever since his debut at the age of 15, he’s been charting his own unique course… His remarkable journey has propelled him to one of the grandest stages in the world.”
The performance follows the arrival of Usher’s ninth studio album, Coming Home, which debuted on Friday, February 9th. Spanning 20 tracks, the album features appearances by Burna Boy, 21 Savage, H.E.R., Jungkook, and more.
Up next, Usher is gearing up to keep the momentum going with the 24-date “Past Present Future Tour,” which will kick off in August. Before that, he’ll perform at the Lovers & Friends festival in Las Vegas. Tickets for his tour dates go on sale via Ticketmaster on Monday, February 12th at 10:00 a.m. local time, after which they’ll be available here.
