Vampire Weekend returned to Studio 8H to perform songs from their latest album.
During the May 11 episode Saturday night livehosted by former cast member Maya Rudolph, the Ezra Koenig-led rock quartet delivered a pair of tracks from their fifth studio album, Only God was above uswhich debuted at No. 27 on the Billboard 200 album chart in late April.
Columbia rock outfit opened SNL musical guest concert with “Gen-X Cops” and closed with “Capricorn”. Both tracks appear on the group's new 2019 follow-up set Father of the Bridewhich won a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music album.
Saturday's episode marked the band's fourth time on “A-Punk.” SNLhaving made their debut in March 2008, not even two months after releasing the self-titled debut album that put them on the map.
Elsewhere during the episode, Rudolph reprized her role as Beyonce for a hilarious parody of the YouTube series Chicken Wings Hot. In the skit, a follow-up to her parody from 2021, the comedian wears a cowboy hat and red, white and blue dress similar to Queen Bey's outfit on her latest album cover. Cowboy Carterwhich debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in early April.
Rudolph also did a shiny Song inspired by Madonna during her Mother's Day monologue on May 12.
Saturday night liveThe May 18 season 49 finale will be hosted by actor Jake Gyllenhaal and musical guest Sabrina Carpenter.
