Warm disco from the ’70s and ’80s by the Love Transmission organisers.
We’re stepping into Amsterdam institution Rush Hour for our latest VF Live for a special set by Ays and Kuriosa.
Both hosts of the disco club night Love Transmission, the pair offer up a sizzling collection of dancefloor-heating disco cuts from the ’70s and ’80s.
Ays is a record collector and DJ from Rotterdam with a background as a singer-songwriter. Exploring the depths of disco, funk, soul, jazz, gospel, house and Brazilian boogie in her DJ sets, she also hosts listening sessions with ‘Focus Listening sessions’ and has her own radio show, All Kinds of Joy, on Operator Radio.
Our second DJ, Kuriosa uses his sets to celebrate the sound and culture that laid the foundation of modern club music. He also programmed the custom software that produces the colourful audio-reactive visuals that can be experienced at each edition of Love Transmission.
“I gravitate strongly towards music that evokes feelings of happiness and gets you in the mental state to dance freely. To me, this is felt mostly in Black music produced in the seventies and early eighties, which is not uncoincidentally the era of disco,” explains Kuriosa, discussing their VF Live set.
“There are so many musical elements or a combination thereof that can inspire my selections at any time, but I generally aim for warm and soulful vibes. For this mix, I wanted to dig into all the bins that suit my style, and make sure to include a nice variation of soulful genres from a mix of countries with disco as a connecting factor.”
The pair mark the first anniversary of Love Transmission this April. “Let’s keep the beautiful disco sound alive together, and we hope to see you at our 1st anniversary on April 13th at a soon-to-be-announced location. It’s gonna be an awesome edition because we’ve invited a very special guest that we’re very excited about!”
