Acclaimed Australian singer-songwriter Imogen Clark introduced herself to global audiences last month with the release of 'Big One', which received praise from Wonderland, Noctis and more. Inspired by artists ranging from HAIM and Maggie Rogers to Bruce Springsteen and Sheryl Crow, Imogen Clark's indie-pop storytelling is deeply personal and diaristic, elevating intimate emotions to stadium-scale anthems.
Ahead of shows with legendary troubadour Steve Poltz, Imogen now shares 'Squinters', a co-write with Poltz and the latest taste of her new album, 'The Art of Getting Through', out May 31. The single release accompanies a live performance at the Golden Retriever studio in Sydney, Australia.
“This song is my worst nightmare put to music, the life I could have led if I had never left my hometown, if I had never found the strength to fight for myself.” Imogen explains. “There is a type of person who lives in western Sydney, nicknamed “squinters” because they work 9 to 5 closer to the city, so they always drive home west when the sun goes down, squinting to see the highway. forward. We traded lines back and forth so fluidly, like I had this song seeping inside of me and waiting for the right person to bring it to a boil. We finished it in an hour and went to stuff ourselves with tacos.”
'Squinters' was one of the last songs written and the first recorded for the album. Clark and Poltz crossed paths at the Port Fairy Folk Festival and met in Nashville two months later to write. Immediately captivated by the song, Imogen asked producer Sam Hawksley to convene a lineup of killer musicians at Peter Frampton's Studio Phenix, musicians whose playing had included the soundtrack of Imogen's childhood on records by Sheryl Crow, Don Henley , Taylor Swift, Stevie Nicks and many more.
“Imogen is a delightful accomplice in the song-scribbling game.” says Steve Poltz. “We captured some lyrics on our butterfly nets at my house in Nashville and mixed those words with some chords in a blender. Then we added a little salt and the next thing you know we had a new song called Squinters. We bake it in the oven and cut it into slices. What a great experience it was. I hope all you fans like it too. Imogen is the real deal.”

'Squinters' joins 'Big One', 'All Hard Feelings' and 'If I Want In' to build anticipation for the 13-track 'The Art of Getting Through'. Recorded between Los Angeles, London, Sydney, Melbourne and Nashville, the album is the most ambitious artistic statement yet from an artist who always challenges herself to go beyond her limits, an album about carrying the weight of baggage of life and advancement.

Her songs capture moments, memories and confessions from her journey, battling anxiety and insecurity to fight for who she is and what she believes in. The AIR-nominated 'Bastards' EP followed her equally acclaimed 'The Making of Me' from 2020, while other early career highlights have included an ambitious 100-show-in-100-days tour as her annual show.
