After three years in development and previewing a string of singles including 'Invisible Wall' and 'Second Best', Jewelia recently released her new alt-pop album 'Little Wins'.
The 12 tracks on 'Little Wins' are united by a central theme: celebrating self-acceptance. We are conditioned to believe that we can achieve anything if we work hard enough. However, the reality is that life's demands and unseen circumstances often present unexpected obstacles to even our best-laid plans. Collectively, 'Small Victories' implores us to accept that not everything is possible and instead celebrate the things we have achieved – small victories really matter.
Jewelia says, “The entire album fluctuates between self-encouragement and relentless self-judgment, but overall, there's a constant longing for self-forgiveness, with the conclusion that we're all doing the best we can, and that's okay, and we show it. .We could celebrate where we are, looking back and where we came from.”
The album's new title track, 'Queen of Make Believe', is a key moment in that message. It's an extravagant synth-pop mantra for faking it 'til you make it and crushing the doubts that plague you in the early hours of the morning. Jewelia's radiant voice oozes positivity, delivering great self-confidence, further intensified by the feel-good flow of 2020s alt-pop blending with the energy of classic '80s and '90s synth-pop.
“As I mentioned before, writing and producing this song was pure fun, and so was making the music video! There is something incredibly liberating about not taking yourself too seriously. I'm a big DIY artist, so I had this crazy idea for the video, I found an astronaut costume, a monkey costume, and a green screen, and let myself play and have fun with them. In fact, I had a phase in my childhood where I wanted to become an astronaut! I guess being an artist allows for endless possibilities, it gives you the freedom to play a role and become whoever you want to be. I think this idea perfectly sums up the essence of 'Queen of Make Believe.'”
