Walker Hayes has officially responded to Zach Bryan calling him out on X (formerly known as Twitter) and fittingly called it “Fancy.”
So fancy, he wrote a song about the situation. “Woke up this morning read something bad / Something in the orange says you feel green,” he sings on the track posted to Instagram on Wednesday (January 24), referencing Bryan's hit “Something In the Orange.” “I felt like throwing punches / I just held them back / Because Jesus didn't die for me so I could fight Zach.”
In the post's caption, Hayes noted that while his friends praised him for taking the polite route in his response, he had “a hundred smart answers in the booth that I didn't reject.”
He continued, “It took me 18 years to feed my kids music and I'll still hit something I hear on the radio because I didn't write it. So we tried to put it all into one Twanger. And that's what we got. I hope it gets you talking about things that matter.”
Hayes' post comes in response to a tweet earlier this month that Bryan posted comparing Hayes to Tyler Childers, who just scored his first Top 50 radio hit with “In Your Love,” despite that he was in the music business for a decade and became one. of the country's most beloved artists.
“Imagine you're a radio (whatever the hell that is), listening [Childers’] 'Shake the Frost' and you're like, 'no, let's go with the Applebees song,'” Bryan He wrotereferring to a line in Hayes' TikTok dance track “Fancy Like,” which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2021 and remained atop the Hot Country Songs chart for 24 weeks.
