The song comes from the musician's upcoming solo LP, Bright future
Adrianne Lenker appeared The Tonight Show to perform her emotional single, “Free Treasure.” The Big Thief frontwoman took the stage with a guitar and a backing musician to introduce the track, which Lenker recently called “one of my favorite songs of all time.”
“Free Treasure” comes from Lenker's upcoming solo album Bright future, was released on March 22. The musician wrote of the single, “I hope we can all know love like this. Full of “understanding, patience and pleasure, time and attention and love without measure.” It followed previously released tracks 'Fool', 'Sadness as a Gift' and 'Ruined'.
Bright future, produced by Lenker's frequent collaborator Philip Weinrobe, was recorded with Nick Hakim, Mat Davidson and Josefin Runsteen — three musicians who had never worked together. “I had no idea what the outcome would be,” Lenker said in a statement earlier this year. “It was magical. I think the audiences these people have are some of the best listeners I know musically. They have an extreme presence.”
“It felt like everyone's nervous system was released,” he added. “As soon as we were in the song, we kind of knew. No one stopped a shot. We didn't hear back. I only heard after they had all left.'
Bright future follows songs and Instrumentswhich was released in the fall of 2020. Along with promoting her new LP, Lenker has been hard at work in favor of a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict.
