The actor and Eddie Vedder, who inspired A Star Is Born's character Jackson Maine, deliver an acoustic rendition of the track written by Jason Isbell
Pearl Jam introduced an unlikely guest during the band's concert Saturday at Napa Valley's BottleRock as Bradley Cooper — Jackson Maine himself — took the stage to perform “Maybe It's Time” from his A star Is Born.
With Eddie Vedder on acoustic guitar, Cooper dusted off his Maine persona to deliver a tender rendition of the Jason Isbell-penned track, which Vedder himself previously covered solo at a 2019 Tempe, Arizona music festival .
The pairing on Saturday was notable as Cooper has stated that his Jackson Maine was partly inspired by the Pearl Jam singer. In an interview ahead of the Oscar-nominated film's release, Cooper revealed that he leaned on Vender to learn the rock star's personality when writing Maine's character, asking the Pearl Jam singer “9,000 questions.”
“[Vedder] it gave me little, little things that only musicians know what to do, just aesthetically and internally,” Cooper said. The actor-director also said that Vender discouraged Cooper from the remake A star Is Born. “Brother, don't do that,” Venter told him.
“Maybe It's Time” marked the first time Cooper and Vedder appeared together, but it wasn't the last: Cooper later joined Pearl Jam for their closing cover of Neil Young's “Rockin' in the Free World” .
