It's not the fall that hurts, it's when you hit the ground. That lesson isn't lost on Ed Sheeran, who posted a video on Sunday (January 28) of a close call he had while making a stage entrance during a recent date on his Math World tour.
In the clip, Sheeran sprints onto the stage as a crowd chants his name, only for his foot to be caught on the last step, causing him to come forward. With his trusty acoustic guitar in hand, Sheeran briefly falls to his knees, but almost immediately recovers and jumps up to strum his instrument while spinning in the void below the stage behind him with a knowing smile.
“I made it,” Sheeran wrote in an Instagram post featuring the video, which ends with the iconic rain gif of Keanu Reeves from 1991. The turning point. Sheeran's stylish get-up earned some praise from some famous followers, with Natasha Bedingfield commenting 'Fastest to get up ever', Steve Aoki adding 'Yay!! He nailed it,” Gavin DeGraw gave Ed props saying, “nobody noticed,” and Diplo's writing “crushed it.”
Sheeran spent much of 2023 on the road playing stadiums across Australia/New Zealand and North America before taking on Middle East tour dates earlier this month with shows in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. The tour arrived at the Kyocera Dome Osaka in Osaka, Japan on January 27 for the first of two night runs at the venue, where the tour video was apparently filmed.
The Maths tour is scheduled to continue in late 2024 with additional shows across Asia and Europe through a show on September 8 at Larnaca Marina in Kypos.
