Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton appeared Jimmy Kimmel Live to present their new collaborative single “Purple Irises”. Performing in a sea of literal purple irises and a brilliant purple backdrop, the duo delivered a dynamic duet performance alongside their live band.
The pair released the song, which hears the two duet picking on each other after heartbreak, last week ahead of the Super Bowl. The song, produced by Scott Hendricks, was co-written by Stefani with Svante Halldin, Jakob Hazell and Latina singer-songwriter Niko Rubio.
Stefani also sat down with host Jimmy Kimmel to discuss the single and working on the song with her real-life husband. The singer also talked about No Doubt's upcoming Coachella reunion in April.
“It's crazy,” he said. “It would be amazing. I'm so excited and I think what's going to be hilarious is I know what's going to happen. I'll get on stage and look around and start cracking up. It will just be like riding a bike. We will say: “What are we doing? We're in the future right now.”
He added that they haven't started rehearsals yet. “I don't remember them, no,” Stefani replied when Kimmel asked if she remembered all the No Doubt songs. “Not at all. I think I should learn like eight or nine.”
Stephanie previously reflected on the long-awaited reunion, saying, “It just happened so fast, and that's my favorite thing that's happened.” So far the band has not announced a full tour or new music. “We haven't really figured out the next steps of how we're going to do this, but we're all so excited,” Stefani said People in January.
The singer has collaborated with Shelton several times in the past. The couple, who met on the set The voice in 2014, shortly after they both divorced, collaborated on the Christmas song “You Make It Feel Like Christmas” in 2017. The duo also released a duet of the Judds' “Love Is Alive” last year as a tribute to Wynonna Judd.
