The jelly roll stopped Jimmy Kimmel Live to perform his new song “Burning”, appearing on the outdoor stage of the evening's show with his band and backing singers. Guest host Martin Short announced the musician, who offered an upbeat rendition of the previously unheard track — with fire.
The musician then sat down with Short to discuss writing songs while in prison and his other recent single, “I Am Not Okay.” Jelly Roll also took the opportunity to tease his next album, which will be released this fall (“Jelly Roll's music is fall-friendly,” he hinted), and to announce that he's added 16 dates to his upcoming arena tour.
He confirmed that the tour will include Canada, a big moment for the musician as he recently admitted that he has had some challenges touring outside the US due to his criminal record.
“It took 38 years for the American to let me go and now I have to get other countries to let me in,” he told Short, before asking some “Canada questions” about the language and what they call Canadian bacon there.
Jelly Roll released “I Am Not Okay” earlier this month, marking the musician's first solo offering since his 2023 album. Whitsitt Chapel. It is also the first official song from Jelly Roll's next album. The musician debuted the track last month on the season finale The voice. A week before that, at the 2024 ACM Awards, he premiered another unreleased song, “Liar,” which is also expected to appear on the upcoming LP.
Jelly Roll's tour kicks off on August 27th in Salt Lake City, Utah. Over the past few months, he's played a few festivals and made some very special guest appearances: During his Stagecoach set, he hit up T-Pain for a cover of Toby Keith's “Should've Been a Cowboy.” On Welcome to Rockville, he linked up with Limp Bizkit for their cover of the Who's “Behind Blue Eyes”? On Hangout, she sang “Sweet Home Alabama” with Lana Del Rey. in Dallas, he sang “Cowboy” with Kid Rock (in a Cybertruck no less). and, most recently, in Detroit, he joined Eminem for an updated version of “Sing for the Moment.”
