Ms. Lauryn Hill has seen just about it all in her decorated career. She checked another box with a heartfelt moment when she performed alongside YG's son Marley for his late-night TV debut.
Marley served as the musical guest on Tuesday's (May 14) episode. The Tonight Show, and his mother surprised fans while opening up to him during the soulful family affair. It was her first evening appearance since 2016.
Rocking a yellow jacket over her white top and baggy black trousers, Hill kicked off the medley with a stripped-down version of her 1998 classic 'Ex-Factor' before YG Marley invaded the stage for a reggae rendition of the debut single of “Praise” in 2023 Yah in the moonlight.”
Hill and Rohan Marley's son YG then moved on to his brand new single “Survival,” which intersperses legendary grandfather Bob Marley's “Ambush in the Night.” He previously debuted the track during his Coachella set in April.
The Grammy-winning rapper ripped through “Survival” with a politically charged freestyle that found Hill's name-dropping activists like Black Panther Huey Newton and Malcolm X.
“That same bullet was even shot at Bob Marley for preaching a love as the only principle/ And that bullet doesn't have to be literal/ They try to convict a man for being political,” he raps.
Before signing off, Hill called host Jimmy Fallon The Tonight Show celebrating a decade of late-night television on the air.
Lauryn Hill will also be back on the road later this year to continue her Miseducation of Lauryn Hill 25th Anniversary tour. The 48-year-old canceled a string of dates last year due to doctor's orders related to vocal strain.
