Lenny Kravitz brought his shiny pants The Tonight Show to debut his latest single, 'Human'. Appearing with his live band, the singer delivered an uplifting rendition of the track, which reflects on finding confidence in your being.
The song comes from the rock musician's upcoming 12th album, Blue electric light, due out May 24 via Roxie Records. So far Kravitz has released one single, “TK421”. The album marks Kravitz's first album in five years, since 2018 Raise the vibrationas well as the first double album released in his career.
Kravitz sat down with host Jimmy Fallon to tease the album, which apparently features a lot of cowbells. The musician described the vibe of the LP as “Celebratory. ZOE. Humanity. Love. Sexuality. Sensuality. Spirituality,” adding that the album's title came late in the recording process. He also confirmed that he plays most of the instruments on the LP along with guitarist Craig Ross.
Last year, Kravitz wrote, performed and produced “Road To Freedom” for the Netflix biopic Rustin. The song earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Original Song – Motion Picture. Kravitz published his memoir, Let love prevailin 2020. It was the first of two planned books, with the first installment covering his life up to the release of his debut in 1989, also titled Let love prevail.
In an interview with Rolling rock of the project, Kravitz said, “Well, I never thought about writing the book. I don't think my life is that interesting. [But] I'm glad I did because writing this book was the best form of therapy I could ever do. This was a story about me finding my voice and I didn't want it to be about stardom or fame. The second book will be much more difficult to write. Things got intense, but I think this [writing] will provide the same level of treatment [and] many will be healed.”
Last month, Kravitz took the stage at the People's Choice Awards for a career-spanning performance that included “Fly Away,” “TK421,” “It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over,” “Let Love Rule” and “Are you going my way.”
