Raye probably brightened many commuters' days by performing her new song 'Genesis' on an unconventional stage: a Selhurst train station platform.
In a video posted by the British pop star on Thursday, shortly before the seven-minute long track was released, Raye looks radiant in a polka dot dress as she sings just meters away from the dance floor. She is accompanied by a good-looking jazz band that continues to play even when a loud train passes behind them.
“Genesis will be yours at midnight,” he captioned the clip.
True to her word, the 26-year-old star dropped the track on Friday (June 7). It marks her first release since making history at Brits 2024, breaking the record for most wins and nominations for an artist in a single year — winning six of her seven awards. In addition to the trophies for Best New Artist, Best R&B Act, British Female Artist of the Year and Songwriter of the Year, she was also awarded British album of the Year for her debut My 21st Century Blueswhich peaked at No. 58 on the Billboard 200.
Additionally, Raye received Song of the Year for the 070 Shake-assisted “Escapism,” which peaked at No. 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 last year.
Fans in her comments section loved the Londoner's innovative performance space, as did some famous friends. SZA adoringly captioned the train station video, “All about you,” while Leigh-Anne Pinnock added, “Epic.”
Raye previously described “Genesis” as “a 7-minute labor of love that I've been working on since 2022.” “It hurts a little bit to call this piece of music a 'single' because it's so much more than a song to me,” he continued in May. Post on Instagram. “I have scrapped, refined, replaced, rebuilt, passionately sculpted this song.”
