Weezer is back on the road — and they're bringing 1994 with them.
On Monday, the rock group announced that they will be heading out on the Voyage to the Blue Planet tour this fall to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their debut, self-titled album. Weezeror the Blue album.
The group announced the series of shows with an astronaut-themed video that sees all four members – Rivers Cuomo, Patrick Wilson, Brian Bell and Scott Shriner – walking in slow motion in a spaceship.
“The time has finally come for you to join us as we embark on The Voyage to the Blue Planet tour 🚀🪐,” the group wrote on Instagram. “Celebrating 30 years of the Blue album and bringing @flaminglips and @dinosaurjr along for the ride.”
Weezer will kick off their tour on September 4th in Saint Paul, before making stops in Boston, New York, Washington, DC and Seattle. They will close at the yet-to-be-opened Intuit Dome on October 11th. The band is expected to play the iconic LP, which includes singles “Undone,” “Buddy Holly” and “Say It Ain't So,” in their entirety, along with fan favorites and rarities.
Weezer will be joined on the road by the Flaming Lips and Dinosaur Jr. tickets for the shows will go on sale to the general public on March 15 at 10am. local time. Fans can sign up for presale tickets, which will go on sale at noon local time on March 13.
The group will also hold a special anniversary event at the Lodge Room in Los Angeles on March 15.
“Get ready, because you're going to feel Blue all year long,” the group wrote.
Rolling rock ranked the Blue album as one of the 500 greatest albums of all time. “Released in 1994, it's the jam-packed, equally angry little brother of Pearl Jam Ten and Nirvana Does not mattersomehow more honest and ironic than its predecessors, and somehow bolder in its flouting of old rock rules,” reads a review of the LP.
