Kendrick Lamar was announced Sunday as the halftime headliner at Super Bowl LIX when the big game comes to Caesars Superdome in New Orleans in February 2025.
Lamar follows recent Super Bowl headliners Usher and Rihanna as the rapper took the stage in 2022 as part of the hip-hop halftime show alongside Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Mary J. Blige.
“Rap music is still the most impressive genre to date,” Lamar said in the release. “And I'll be there to remind people why. They got the right one.”
Jay-Z added: “Kendrick Lamar is truly a once in a generation artist and performer. His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. It has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture worldwide. Kendrick's work transcends music and his impact will be felt for years to come.”
With 75 Billboard Hot 100 entries to his name — including 15 top 10s and four No. 1 hits, his latest being Drake's “Not Like Us,” which topped the chart for two weeks earlier this year — reducing K. Dot's distinction Discography to fit a 12- to 15-minute show is a difficult proposition.
From good boy, big city to DIME. and To Pimp a Butterflythere are plenty of anthems for Lamar to choose from for his upcoming set.
Even without releasing an album, 2024 has been an extremely memorable one for King Compton. Kendrick opened with his nuclear assist on Future and Metro Boomin's No. 1 hit “Like That,” which saw him take down Drake in battle and set the stage for the promising arrival of his next LP in the five months until Super Bowl LIX.
