Wilco has announced a new EP, Cool shroud from the hot sunwhich will be released on June 28 to coincide with the band's Solid Sound Festival in Massachusetts.
Coming via dBpm Records, Cool shroud from the hot sun will offer six new songs recorded by Wilco during the sessions for their 2023 album, Cousins. According to frontman Jeff Tweedy, the EP has a “summer after dark” feel. It starts out pretty hot, like heat during the day, has some instrumentals that are a little choppy and uncomfortable, and ends with a refreshing breeze.”
Tweedy then explained: “There are clues in Cool shroud from the hot sun that are more aggressive and angular than anything we've released in a long time, and a song about love that melts you like ice cream in a puddle of sugary soup. All the pieces of summer, including the melancholy cicadas.”
Upon arrival on June 28, Cool shroud from the hot sun will be available digitally, with a physical release planned for later this year. However, fans attending Solid Sound will have the opportunity to pick up a limited edition white vinyl copy of the EP and will even be able to design their own artwork for the cover at a special station with unique stickers and stamps designed by the artist. .
