To celebrate the 20th anniversary of their 2004 LP, Jeff Tweedy and company deliver a full album at the Massachusetts festival
Earlier this month marked Wilco's 20th anniversary A Ghost Is Bornand to celebrate its belated birthday, the band presented the entire 2004 album in full on Saturday at the Solid Sound festival.
One night after Jeff Tweedy and company performed a 'Deep Cuts!' for die-hard fans only! at the annual North Adams, Massachusetts festival, the band returned to more familiar territory Saturday night with what was billed as a typical Wilco set.
After a series of fan favorites and the live debut of two songs from their new Hot Sun Cool Shroud EP, however, things took a turn as Wilco started playing A Ghost Is Born tracks in the same order as the album's track listing: First 'At Least That's What You Said', then 'Hell Is Chrome', then 'Spiders (Kidsmoke)', etc., and it soon became apparent that Solid Sound audiences was in the midst of a full album performance.
During the long noise jam that concludes penultimate track “Less Than You Think,” Wilco exited the stage, but returned for an encore that began with the album's closing track, “The Late Greats,” as well as other nonA Ghost of Born favourites.
The Solid Sound festival concludes on Sunday with performances by Wednesday, Iris DeMent and Jeff Tweedy & Friends.
As Rolling rock mentionted this week on July 18th the online gear store Reverb will launch a new sale of rare guitars, signed posters and other instruments and equipment from the Wilco Loft, following a similar sale last year. “My guitars are like my children. I love them so much,” Tweedy said in a press release. “That said, I'm grateful that there is a place where I can easily and safely sell the children who no longer bring me joy.”
