For the first time ever, every film fan's favorite streaming service and independent film distributor, MUBI, is hosting a party in Chicago. Embodying MUBI's spirit of culture, curation, and love of cinema, MUBI Chicago Film Festival 2024 will bring a series of music-focused films, revealing live conversations and happy hours to the Windy City on August 17 and 18. The first day (Friday, August 17) will feature a series of screenings that explore the pivotal role music has played throughout the history of cinema. At both the Gene Siskel Film Center and the Music Box Theatre, attendees will be able to see The last days of disco music, Nashville (4K Restoration) and the Chicago premiere of My first movieamong many other images. The day also includes a live recording of the MUBI Podcast with special guests Thrill Jockey, the legendary Chicago-based record label, as well as a free happy hour (!!).Note: Each performance is marked individually. On the second day, the stakes are raised by betting on the intersection between film and music. The MUBI festival, which will be held at The Salt Shed, will screen the film starring David Bowie. Labyrinth — And that’s not all, as art pop darlings US Girls will be joining in on the fun. US Girls will kick off the night with a live performance, which will be followed by a Q&A with US Girls’ Jessica Hopper and Meg Remy. Then, after the performance, Labyrinth Following the screening, DJ Lulu will host a party in the Salt Shed lobby.
