Wishy, the indie rock quintet led by Indiana songwriters Kevin Krauter and Nina Pitchkites, have announced their debut album, triple seven, Available August 16th from Winspear.
triple seven arrives after the band's pair of 2023 EPs: manna and the excellent one from last December Paradise. Previously, Krauter released two solo albums and played in the dream pop band Hoops, while Pitchkites fronted the electro-pop band Push Pop. Their dreamy, guitar-driven sound is indebted to '90s shoegaze and staples. of indie rock like My Bloody Valentine and The Sundays.
As a preview of triple seven, the band has shared “Love on the Outside,” a power pop anthem featuring Krauter at the helm. Sounding like a forgotten late-90s alternative radio hit, “Love on the Outside” features a seismic chorus and a searing bridge that builds into a feedback-filled outro; Krauter chronicles the beginnings of a relationship and, meanwhile, the band alternates between sedative dream pop and happy, frenetic rock.
“This song is about that exciting but frustrating initial phase of a romance when there is uncertainty about where things will go,” Krauter says of “Love on the Outside” in a statement. “The scales could tip in either direction, and patience often begins to wear thin. Sometimes you just want to grab someone by the shoulders and say, 'Okay, what's really going on!' “It was fun to bring that kind of melodramatic energy to a song.” stream the song below.
