Dan Boeckner leaves Wolf Parade with his debut solo album, Boeckner! Available March 15 via Sub Pop. You're checking it out today with lead single “Lose.”
“I think in many ways I'm still playing in a punk band in Vancouver,” Boeckner explains of the album in a press release. “Since I was a teenager, my life in music has consisted of trying to develop my own musical language, and this album is the beginning of presenting it.”
Boeckner! was produced, engineered and mixed by Randall Dunn, whose work with noise bands like Sunn O))) inspired Boeckner while writing the record, which he describes as “like an autobiography.” Pre-orders are in progress.
Fans of Boeckner's music with Wolf Parade, as well as Handsome Furs, Divine Fits, Operations, Atlas Strategic and more will recognize him on “Lose,” a euphoric noise-rock jam that serves as the album's opener. “Now I'm a walking ghost / Night watch at the radar station,” he sings, leaning into the sinister feel of the song.
