Ye FKA Kanye West has been named in a recent lawsuit that claims he created a hostile environment for a man and his fellow black workers. The lawsuit was filed by a former security guard who worked for Ye at Donda Academy and claims the producer asked the man to cut his dreadlocks among other alleged problems on the construction site.
Page six obtained legal documents filed by Benjamin Deshon Provo, who worked for Ye in 2021. In the lawsuit, Provo says he and other black workers at the academy were mistreated compared to their white counterparts, who apparently enjoyed favorable conditions work.
From Page six:
“Kanye and members of his management team subjected Provo and other black employees to less favorable treatment than their white counterparts,” the lawsuit states.
“Specifically, Kanye frequently screamed and berated black employees, while in contrast, he never raised his voice to white staff.”
Provo claims West, 46, mocked him for wearing his hair in dreads – although he claims the hairstyle was partly due to his Muslim faith.
“Kanye and members of his management team asked Provo to choose between these critical aspects of his self-identity and his financial stability,” the complaint states.
Provo said that because he refused orders to cut his hair, he was let go from his post. Provo also claimed that the Chicago superstar allegedly banned books from the academy that praised Black leaders.
Provo's lawsuit alleged discrimination, hostile work environment, retaliation, labor code violations and other related claims for which it seeks damages.
