Sean Ono Lennon has shared his thoughts on the lingering impact John Lennon had on his mother Yoko Ono, believing that she “never has moved on from that relationship”.
Sean expressed his sentiment on the relationship between his late father and his mother in an interview with BBC Radio 6 Music. Host Chris Hawkins asked if he had learned anything new about either of his parents while compiling the boxset for John Lennon’s Mind Games (order here), prompting Sean to reflect on his recent discoveries.
“The truth is, even when they were apart they were always talking, so I don’t think they ever really broke up, all his stuff was still in the apartment with my mum, it’s not like they had a real separation. And on top of it, all my dad was thinking about was her,” he explained. “You look at the album cover [of Mind Games], it’s a collage of my mum literally the size of a mountain, and he’s this little tiny thing sort of fading into the background. And I think it’s clear what his view of my mum was in his life. She was monumental, obviously. And the whole album is about her.”
He went on to say that he thinks Yoko “never has moved on from that relationship.”
In April, Sean linked up with another Beatles descendant, Paul McCartney’s son James, to record and release a new song called “Primrose Hill.” Within the last year and change, Sean also released his solo album Asterisms, nabbed an Academy Award for Best Animated Short as an executive producer for War Is Over!, and received a Grammy nomination for the packaging of Mind Games.
