Zayn Malik is hitting the road. The former One Direction singer and solo star gave another of his patented silent performances at The Tonight Show on Tuesday (September 17), in which she strolled onto the set during host Jimmy Fallon's hour post-office monologue to make a very special announcement.
In keeping with the previous, wordless, he appeared earlier this year when he strolled onto the set in March with a mug of coffee in hand and wrote his then-new ballad “What I Am” on Fallon's laptop before handing him a note that announces his fourth job. solo album, Room under the stairslast night's show was short on words but long on news.
Wearing a black leather jacket and missing the voluminous beard that's been covering his face lately, Zayn, 31, again with a white coffee mug in hand, casually stepped out to shout out the studio audience and hand Fallon a note. “Zane! Zayn, what are you…,” Fallon said in mock surprise at the unexpected (but clearly planned) visit.
Malik smiled and waved to the crowd before raising his own Room under the stairs single “Stardust” on Fallon's computer. He then walked to the front of the office, traded Fallon's black coffee mug for his own white Z-branded mug, waved to the crowd, and exited the stage.
“Hey Jimmy, good to see you, man,” Fallon read the note left by the English singer in what sounded like an Australian accent via Liverpool that eventually switched to his normal voice. “I will be doing my first tour this fall. So maybe when you're done picking apples with your buds, you can check out my Stairway to the Sky tour in the US and UK.”
While at press time the dates had yet to be revealed, the memo said the official announcement would come on Wednesday morning (September 18).
Hours before, the singer also teased the release with a cryptic 24-second black-and-white video captioned “Tomorrow” in which he dropped an old antenna on top of a hill, spun the dials on a reel-to-reel tape machine. and I pulled out a walkie talkie with a voice accented, “I know it took a while, but we're here.”
When he hits the road, Zayn will have four solo albums of material to choose from, since his 2016 debut, Mind of Mineuntil 2018 Icarus Fallsof 2021 Nobody is listening and this year's Room under the stairs.
This story will be updated when the dates are officially announced.
