Zayn Malik crashed talk show host Jimmy Fallon’s opening monologue on Wednesday night to tease his new single and album.
The former One Direction star announced his fourth studio album, Room Under the Stairs, on Instagram on Wednesday and helped spread the word with a surprise appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon hours later.
As host Jimmy began his opening monologue, Zayn walked into the studio casually holding a mug and headed over to Jimmy’s desk as the audience screamed. He pressed a button on Jimmy’s laptop, which started playing his new single What I Am, and handed him a note.
Without saying a word, the Pillowtalk hitmaker smiled and waved at the audience before walking out of the studio again.
Reading from the note, the TV star said, “Jimmy, look to your right for my album. My new single What I Am is out this Friday off my upcoming album Room Under the Stairs, available May 17. Hope you’ll check it out. I will – Zayn everybody!”
Jimmy put away the album cover and note and stopped the track before resuming his monologue by quipping, “Anyway, as I was saying…”
Room Under the Stairs marks Zayn’s first album in three years, following the release of 2021’s Nobody Is Listening.
In a teaser for his new music earlier this month, the 31-year-old said, “I think the intention behind this album fully is for the listener to get more insight on me personally as a human being. My ambitions, my fears, and for them to have a connection with that, and that’s why it’s so raw. It’s just me writing this. I didn’t want anybody else to be in between me and the music and the music and the people listening to it.”
