The track appears on the singer's new album, Room under the stars
Zayn Malik has unveiled an ethereal music video for “Stardust.” The single appears on the former One Direction member's new LP, Room under the starsout today.
In the clip, directed by Frank and Ivanna Borin, Zayn is a celestial being trapped on Earth, guided by falling stars as he explores a magical lake and forest. “Feels like stardust/ Floating all around us,” the anthem croons. “I'm shooting right across a / Big black sky.”
Room under the stairs It was co-produced by Dave Cobb and written over the course of several years at Malik's home in rural Pennsylvania. It marks Malik's first album under his new label Mercury Records.
“This is my favorite album I've made to date, mostly because it comes from a place of complete honesty and vulnerability,” Zayn said in a statement. “I wanted every song to feel like it was just me sitting next to you telling you how I feel, singing directly to you. It's raw and stripped down and the kind of music I've always hoped to make. Working with Dave Cobb was an amazing experience. The way he uploaded the music is second to none, and he's done an incredible job helping me create this record. I hope we can take listeners on some whimsical, magical journey and they enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed doing it.”
The musician added, “I think being where I was at the time, staying away from things and living with my own thoughts inspired me to want to write something from that place. I have to exhibit it as a body of work, it's something for myself, not just for the world.”
Malik's latest album, Nobody is listening, due out in 2021. Since then, he's shared a few scattered singles, including “To Begin Again” with Ingrid Michaelson, a cover of Jimi Hendrix's “Angel,” and last year's “Love Like This.” In January, he collaborated with up-and-coming Pakistani band Aur on a remake of their hit single, “Tu Hai Kahan”.
