Saint Wrath It is possibly the lowest point in Metallica's recording career. The documentary some kind of monster described the group's dysfunction at the time, and the resulting music is among the band's most derided.
The 2003 album, and in particular Lars Ulrich's legendary drum tone, has been the butt of many jokes over the years. Now the band seems to have gotten to the absurd humor of it all.
The self-deprecation came in the form of a social media post announcing the addition of tracks from Saint Wrath to FenderPlay, a guitar instruction platform that allows aspiring guitarists to play licensed recordings.
He published the band in instagram: “Everyone's favorite album is now on @fenderplay! Dust off your guitar (sorry, the box will have to wait for another day) and start with “Frantic”, “St. Anger”, “A Kind of Monster” and “The Nameless Feeling”.
It's fun to see Metallica making some harmless, self-aware mockery of “everyone's favorite album,” even if it's through their social media team. The comment about the box is especially surprising, since it is a delicate subject for Lars Ulrich, who continues to bet “one hundred percent” on the tiny tone of the box and is less inclined to get on the box. Saint Wrath hit car.
“Heard Saint Wraththat's a beating and a half, and there's a lot of raw, incredible energy,” Ulrich said in 2020.
An interesting fact is that at Metallica's “No Repeat Weekends” shows, the band re-entered the Saint Wrath songbook, which exhumes the deep cut “Dirty Window” for some of the band's 2023 setlists.
