The midweek best-seller, Tangk (via Partisan) completes its mission at the top with physical sales accounting for 85% of its first-week result, including a market-leading volume on vinyl, the official charts company reports.
Founded in Bristol, England, Tangk is the Idles' fifth studio album and fifth UK top 10 appearance, including a 2020s leader Ultra Mono.
It's been a good start to the year for the Idles, whose five members attended the 2024 Grammy Awards, where the group earned nominations for Best Rock album for Reptilian and Best Rock Performance for “Crawl!”.
Meanwhile, Paloma Faith scores a sixth UK top 10 The Glory of Sorrow (RCA), new at No. 2. The London-born singer-songwriter was once the official chart topper, with 2017 The architectand now has three No. 2 peak albums since 2012 Fall To Grace and 2014 A perfect contradiction.
By Noah Kahan Stick Season (Republic Records) rounds out the podium, falling 1-3 after a week at the top.
The late, great Bob Marley tops the official UK Albums Chart, published on Friday, February 23, following the release of the biopic in UK cinemas Bob Marley: One Love.
The Everlasting Collection of Bob Marley & The Wailers Legend (Tuff Gong) goes up 18-2. Forty years after its release, the LP has now logged an astonishing 1,122 weeks on the Official Albums Chart, including 12 non-consecutive No. 1s. Only one album has amassed more weeks on the tally — ABBA Gold with 1,138 weeks and counting.
According to the Official Charts Company, this is the first time Legend has been in the top 10 since 2020. Further down the list, Bob Marley & The Wailers' classic LP from 1977 Crowd exit vaults 93-36.
Liverpool indie rock Crawlers score a first UK top 10 The mess we seem to be making (Polydor), their debut LP. It's new at No. 7. The Crawlers earn a spot in the top 40 with their EP 2022 Loud Without Noisewhich reached No. 22.
Finally, new releases from Pet Needs (Intermittent fast living at No. 17 via Xtra Mile), Cast (Love Is The Call at No. 22 via Cast Recordings), Yeat (2093 at No. 24 via EMI), Steve Hackett (The Circus and the Night Whale at No. 30 via Inside Out), Blackberry Smoke (Be here at No. 31 via 3 Legged) and Booter Bee (true stories at No. 34 via Zeromileage) crack the top 40.
