The logo that The Notorious BIG became famous is still in high demand. Chaos broke out in a Versace sample sale in New York.
As mentionted with Gothamist the brand that Gianni recently built tried to host a pop up shop where consumers could buy samples. On Wednesday, March 27, hundreds of people lined up early at 125 West 18th Street hoping to score the designer at a discount. Unfortunately the overwhelming demand caught the staff by surprise and there was a banging on the doors that opened to the public.
The crowds pushed their way causing a barrier to the entrance. Video taken at the scene shows that tensions were already high at that point with some people shouting and pushing others out in an attempt to squeeze in. A fight eventually broke out, prompting store staff to call the NYPD for help. Once on the scene local signals temporarily shut down the event in an attempt to control the crowds. The Strategic Response Team can be seen ordering everyone out of the block.
One woman took to TikTok saying “It's ghetto here. It's ghetto. Closed. They even broke the glass of one of the doors,” he said. “They've been fighting each other, some girl had to go out in the ambulance because she got trampled.” Another man gave more details about the origin of the disturbance. “People ran to the front and then stayed at the front, and then people in the second lot were arguing about it and then it was absolute chaos,” he added.
The sample sale was scheduled to run until Saturday, March 30, but has since been canceled. Versace has yet to comment on the matter. You can watch footage of the mayhem below.
