Billie Eilish almost a month away from the release of her third album, Hit with hard and soft, this spring without having previously released a single. However, in a new interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, he decided to break the rules a bit and tease a 15-second snippet of one of the project's tracks.
The song, reportedly titled 'Chihiro' after the main character of the beloved Studio Ghibli film, Spirited Away, features a charming melody with Eilish singing in her signature soft tone: “Today, maybe tomorrow/ Open the door for me/ I know you said it before/ You can't take it anymore.” Eilish has long been a fan of Hayao Miyazaki's filmography and indeed he admitted jokingly to fall in love with the dragon within Spirited Away.
“Every time you put anything out, you feel like your bare bones have leaked a little bit,” the nine-time Grammy winner said of the upcoming album. “I think that's just the way it is. Something that Phineas and I said to a few people when we started playing it for people was that we made the album that if someone had said, “I want you to make an album and nobody's going to listen to it.” You don't have to worry about anyone's ears or opinions or anything at all. It's in your contract to make an album but nobody can listen to it.' We pretty much made this album. We made this album without thinking too much about others.”
Strike with hard and soft, will be released on May 17, followed by the musician's 2019 debut When we all fall asleep, where do we go? and the 2021 sophomore effort Happier than everboth topped the Billboard 200 for three weeks.
