Presenting Single of the Year, the Grammy-winning country singer and Outer Range star poked fun at this year's nominees in a hilarious parody song
Nominee Ashley McBryde and actor Noah Reid stole the show while presenting Single of the Year at the 2024 ACM Awards. The pair parodied this year's nominees at the award show.
Reid has sung a bit on both Outer Range and, most memorably, on Schitt's Creek, which McBride praised early in their time on stage. Reed said he was nervous about performing on the show, so McBride pulled out a ukulele and began a rendition of Parker McCollum's “Burn It Down,” this time about Reed being new in town. McBryde's take on Luke Combs' “Fast Car” has her recommending some Nashville hot spots (even if she's in Texas tonight).
The pair became more topical when Reid covered Morgan Wallen's “Last Night,” referencing the incident in which he threw his chair at Eric Church's Nashville bar Chief's. “You should be smiling in the rubber,” McBride joked afterwards, before pointing out how all the Singles nominees are “kids, again” for her version of Jordan Davis' Next Thing You Know. They rounded out the candidates by poking fun at the many beards country kids have with Reid's parody of Jelly Roll's “Need a Favor” — rendered here as “Need a Razor.”
McBryde was nominated for Female Artist of the Year (Lainey Wilson eventually won). She has previously won three ACM Awards, winning New Female Artist of the Year in 2019. Reid has released a few albums of her own, most recently in 2022 Adjustments. While in operation Schitt's Creek, his cover of Tina Turner's “Simply the Best,” performed by Patrick's character on the show, went viral. Its second season Outer Range premiered on Amazon Prime this week.
