Nelly Furtado trekked from Canada to Washington, DC NPR offices to make her very late Tiny office concert debut.
Furtado combined her decorated two-decade career into a laid-back 11-track set, which arrived Friday (May 24) ahead of the holiday weekend.
The set list ranged from her biggest hits like the Timbaland-produced “Promiscuous,” which topped the Billboard Hot 100, to underground bangers that don't even exist on streaming services today, like her powerful remix to “Get Ur Freak On” by Missy Elliott.”
“We really want to give a shout out to Timbaland,” Furtado said. “If he doesn't have one, I feel like he needs his Tiny office for sure.”
Nelly assembled a full-fledged band to recreate her eclectic pop sound. Backed by musicians handling percussion, violin, keyboard, bass, a DJ and additional singers, Furtado shined center stage as an eternal wonder.
She rocked a white tank top that appeared to have a slimy texture to show off an aesthetic that she was really soaking wet with her black bra peeking out from behind.
The Portuguese singer went through her other Hot 100 No. 1 hits “Say It Right” and “Give It to Me” without Timbo and Justin Timberlake. Furtado also took fans on a time machine back to 2001 for her top 100 entry “Turn off the Light” and her intro anthem “I'm Like a Bird.”
“Please dance,” he instructed the crowd before ending with the 2006 hit Loose stands out “Maneater.”
US fans will be able to catch the Canadian pop icon in Los Angeles at the HARD Summer 2024 music festival in August. Earlier this week, Furtado teamed up with Tove Lo and SG Lewis for her new single “Love Bites.”
