Detroit legends Eminem, Jack White and Diana Ross are among the musicians taking part in a grand reopening concert at Michigan Central Station on June 6. The event will be broadcast live on Peacock starting at 8:30 pm ET. Additionally, a one-hour primetime rebroadcast will be shown on NBC on June 9 at 7:00 pm ET/PT.
The historic train station first opened in 1913, but closed in 1988 and remained empty until it was purchased by Ford Motor Company in 2018. Now, after a six-year restoration, it will reopen as a mixed-use facility .
To celebrate its reopening, Eminem and his former manager, Paul Rosenberg, will executive produce a 90-minute concert featuring some of Detroit's biggest stars. In addition to Eminem, White and Ross, other scheduled artists include Big Sean, Illa J, Kierra Sheard, Theo Parrish, Slum Village, The Clark Sisters, Sky Jetta and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
The concert also promises appearances from non-Detroit artists, including Common, Fantasia, Melissa Etheridge and Jelly Roll.
“It is an honor to produce this tribute to my hometown of Detroit and Central Michigan, creating the biggest night of music in our city's history, highlighting our deep-rooted cultural influence and symbolizing our Detroit impact on the world,” Eminem said in a declaration. “This moment has been decades in the making and will be as iconic to our community as the Motown Showcase, uniting multiple generations of artists and fans.”
Last week, Eminem teased his upcoming studio album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace)with the release of his new single, “Houdini.”
