Normani dives into her debut album and gives us a dose of 'Dopamine'. After years of preparation, the singer is ready to deliver what fans have been eagerly expecting from her. She shares what her era 'Dopamine' will sound like, why she wasn't a fan of her hit single “Motivation,” a possible Fifth Harmony reunion, her work with Gunna and Cardi B and more!
Normani:
I know it's been a long journey and process, but the wait for sure, I feel like it will definitely be worth it. Hey, what's up guys? I'm Normani and you're watching Billboard News.
Tetris Kelly:
Let's talk about the first single “1:59”. Why was that the one you were ready to introduce this new era to?
Normani:
For me, it's just a feeling and it's also crazy, because I feel like the evolution between albums is just crazy. Me. It's like I love seeing beauty and I love the process and being able to see it at every stage. And I remember the first time I ended up playing it, everyone was like, 'Okay, yeah, this is cool.' This is great.' And then once it was finalized, once it was done, once we had Gunna on it, it felt like a record, it felt like it was just finished. I try not to think about it too much, which I know sounds crazy, probably coming from me. We'll talk about what I know, we'll get there. It felt like it bridged the gap between “Wild Side” and where I am now. It feels cohesive. It seemed like it made sense. But I felt like an evolved version of myself.
Tetris Kelly:
You said “he finalized it and you put Gunna on there,” so tell me why you felt like he was the artist to be on this song? And what was it like working with him?
