In a move that is sure to draw attention, and potentially some other things: Sofi Tukker and Heidi Klum have joined forces for a provocative new single and music video, “Spiral.”
Relationships end but dance parties last forever, at least according to Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern's latest summer anthem. The new single combines the duo's signature guitar licks with a propulsive Eurodance beat and lyrics about conjuring bittersweet willpower to get through a relationship. The music video, however, is undeniably the highlight of the release.
Channeling the carefree exuberance of children's sleepovers in the style of turn-of-the-century chick flicks like 13 going on 30, Sofi Tukker and Klum reboot the nostalgia machine, more or less. They dive into exciting uncharted territory with the daring music video “Spiral,” where the lines between high art and shameless obscenity blur in a delicious frenzy.
Dressed in lingerie and furry coats, Hawley-Weld and Klum trade microphones for, ahem, more intimate accessories, strutting gleefully through what had to be a dreamy video shoot for the former. And just when you think he can't get any wilder, Halpern crashes the party as a pizza delivery boy, a classic adult film character. But obviously there's no cheap porn here as he gets behind the decks to play a rave at home.
The music video “is about leaning on great friendships during difficult times,” Klum said. Check it out below.
“Spiral” will appear in BREADacronym for “Be Really Energetic And Dance”, Sofi Tukker's first studio album since the brilliant 2022. WET TENNIS. Halpern and Hawley-Weld will take the new album, which will include 10 tracks, on tour for their biggest U.S. bill. route to date in the fall.
The new single marks the latest foray into dance music for Klum, who recently collaborated with Tiësto on “Sunglasses At Night,” a reworking of Corey Hart's 1984 synth-pop hit of the same name.
“I don't like to be pigeonholed or put in a box, like, 'Oh, you can only do this.' I get excited about things I haven't done before or trying new things,” she said. EDM.com in an interview at the time. “And I think that's how the world should be now. I feel like we can be multifaceted… There's more freedom.”
