Vampire Weekend have completed work on their new Raga style album.
The rockers have been busy in the studio crafting the follow-up to their 2019 record 'Father of the Bride' and have now confirmed that the currently untitled album – known as 'LP5' – is ready to go.
In the latest edition of the band's newsletter – The Quarterly Report – bassist Chris Baio ended the note by stating: “So I'd like to end this update with the most exciting news: LP5 IS DONE.”
No further details have been released about the album, but it is expected to be released next year.
In the summer, it was revealed that the record was inspired by the Indian classical music framework, Raga.
Drummer Chris Tomson explained that frontman Ezra Koenig had singing lessons at Raga and inspired 10 new tracks that he boasted were their “best”.
In the previous edition of the newsletter, Chris wrote: “Ezra [Koenig] took a singing lesson with Terry Riley in rural Japan and wrote what he considers to be 7 of the 10 greatest songs of all time.”
He continued: “I personally found an immense peace and pleasure in creating with children as we had in the Ruggles days. The atmosphere was powerful.” Chris added: “I feel like it might be our best yet. 10 songs, without skipping”.
In 2021, Ezra revealed that the indie band recorded new music in England and Los Angeles, but work was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking to Mark Hoppus on his Apple Music Hits show, Ezra said: “It's crazy that it's been three years. I mean, about a year and a half doesn't count because of COVID.
“But yes. We've been working on the music and we've just been recording in England for a while, now back in L.A., we're working with everybody and, yeah, I think we're… I'm always hesitant… Sometimes I get over how close we are with the record because really who knows? But we almost have songs worth an album.”
