A vulnerable Machine Gun Kelly opens up about his troubled relationship with his mother in a raw chat with Bunnie XO in the eighth season opener of her popular podcast. Silly blonde.
“I'd like to say on the record that I love my mom so much and I misunderstood her so early in my career,” Kelly tells Bunnie XO in the clip, which premieres below. “And it's not misconstrued to mean that we're not telling the truth. i was talking my truth, but I did not give the masses a chance to understand its truth.”
His pain stemmed from the fact that his mother did not try to find him after he ran away from the family when he was young, resulting in many years of estrangement. “You have to come to me… come find me no matter what,” he says.
Kelly wrote about his issues with his mother in his tragic 2019 song, “Burning Memories,” whose lyrics include: “How did you leave your only child at nine for another dude?/ All the years you've been ignoring me with they left the bed sleepless/ I hope daddy has some kids 'cause your only son died/ I spent 20 years waiting on the stairs/ Now I'm done and I believe someone will ever hear these prayers.”
Kelly reconciled with his mother in 2021 and then posted a photo of the two together on Instagram in 2022 with the caption, “I introduce my mom.”
Bunnie XO isn't the only family member spending quality time with Kelly lately. Her husband, Jelly Roll, and Kelly released the new song “Lonely Road” on July 26, which they've been working on for more than two years. The song interpolates John Denver's 1971 classic 'Take Me Home, Country Roads'.
Bunnie XO's podcast sees her interview celebrities from all walks of life, including visionaries like Tyler Henry, professional wrestlers like Saraya and burlesque queen Dita Von Teese. A future episode this season will feature her conversation with Elle King.
The full podcast premieres Monday (August 5) on all podcast providers, including Spotify and Apple Music. Watch the clip below.
