Track by Track is our recurring series where artists guide readers through each song on a release. Today, singer-songwriter Luna Li talks about her new album, When a thought develops wings.
Often, a Luna Li song feels more like an orchestral composition than a product of today's dream-pop/indie world. It's one of the main components that makes the Canadian-born, Los Angeles-based emerging artist's music stand out, and that attention to detail is one of the cornerstones of her new album, When a thought develops wings. The follow-up to his 2022 debut, Dualitysees the classically trained artist at his most vulnerable, most complex, and yet most intriguing.
Along 11 tracks, When a thought develops wings This proves that Li's approach to music is working. “I'm a dreamer,” she tells Consequencedrawing inspiration from her daily life, broken relationships, and other music she loves.
“I once had the experience of having feelings for someone at the same time as being obsessed with a song, and I began to associate the person with that particular song,” he recalls. “The sense of possibility, wonder, and romance of the two different passions seemed so similar to me that they almost became one.”
