Fatman Scoop, the iconic publicity man and hip-hop artist, tragically died after suffering a medical emergency during a concert Friday night in Connecticut.
Scoop's death was confirmed in a statement shared by his family on his official Instagram page. He was 53 years old.
“It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of the legendary and iconic Fatman Scoop,” the statement read. “Last night, the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light on stage and in life.”
The famous rapper, whose real name is Isaac Freeman III, was a beloved contributor to the electronic dance music community. His voice, a gravelly force of nature that dominated dance floors around the world, was featured in the music of Skrillex, Hardwell, Laidback Luke and many other dance music icons.

Freeman’s powerful baritone had the uncanny ability to ignite crowds, and his call-and-response choruses became timeless celebratory anthems. Turning simple phrases into unforgettable party-starting mantras, his commanding presence and unmistakable vocal delivery left an indelible mark on club culture, bridging genres and generations with the exuberance of an entertainer extraordinaire.
“FatMan Scoop was not only a world-class entertainer, he was a father, brother, uncle and friend,” Freeman's family wrote. “He was the laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength and courage. FatMan Scoop was known around the world as the undisputed voice of the club. His music made us dance and embrace life with positivity. His joy was contagious and the generosity he gave to all will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.”
