In December 2022, British rapper Pa Salieu was sentenced to 33 months in prison after being convicted of violent disorder and possession of a bottle as an offensive weapon, stemming from a 2018 incident. Now, after serving about 21 months of that sentence, Salieu has been released single, his rep confirmed to Pitchfork. The musician too was posted on social media, “I've been away for a while but I'm still back to you 👑.”
According to prosecutors, Salieu got into a fight outside Coventry's Club M after his friend, Fidel 'AP' Glasgowgrandson of Neville Staple of the Specials, stabbed to death aged 21. During the altercation, Salieu attacked a man, 23, with a bottle and a tree branch. Sallie was one of them 11 men were imprisoned in connection with the match, but no one has been charged with Glasgow's murder. Sallie was 21 at the time of the fight and 25 when he was sentenced to prison. In 2015, Salieu also surrendered suspended sentence for possession of a knife.
Salieu released his self-titled debut, Send them to Coventryin 2020 and followed it up with the African revolutionary EP in 2021. He went on to collaborate with FKA twigs, Ibeyi, Aitch, Mura Masa and more in the following years and was nominated for the Rising Star Award at the 2021 BRITs. Salieu also made his US TV debut with a 'Frontline' performance. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon the same year.
