In Joker: Folie à DeuxLady Gaga's Harley Quinn loves Joaquin Phoenix's Arthur Fleck just the way he is — because baby, he was born that way.
A month before the premiere of Todd Phillips Joker Warner Brothers then released a new teaser showing how the pop superstar's character enables the iconic DC Comics villain's descent into madness. In the 30-second video, Phoenix slaps while sitting in the back of a police car, stands in the rain at a facility and, at one point, attacks a judge in a courtroom while the volume of his creepy laughter slowly increases.
“He's a monster,” says an unseen voice, while another adds, “This is a very disturbed person.”
But as the Joker is swarmed by fans and admirers, Gaga responds: “He's not sick! He is perfect.”
It will hit theaters on October 4, Folie à Deux will show Fleck awaiting trial for his crimes as the Joker. While institutionalized, he meets Quinn and the pair embark on a chaotic musical journey that leaves viewers wondering what is real and what is imagined.
In a long trailer released in July, for example, the two characters waltz to Frank Sinatra's “When You're Smiling” in bright outfits before taking the stage of a 1960s variety show, both wearing the signature paint the clown. “I have a sneaking suspicion that we're not giving the people what they want,” the Joker says into an old-fashioned microphone in the trailer, to which Quinn replies, “It's okay, baby — let's give the people what they want.”
The teaser comes a few weeks after Gaga released “Die With a Smile” featuring Bruno Mars, her first proper single since 2022's “Hold My Hand.” Top Gun: Maverick movie soundtrack. The duet debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.
