Blake Shelton has released his first release under his new label, BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville and Wheelhouse Records, with a lost love anthem that harkens back to '80s and '90s-era country and offers a nod to its great country George Strait. .
“Texas,” written by Johnny Clawson, Kyle Sturrock, Josh Dorr and Lalo Guzman, is a song Shelton said he connected with immediately.
“What immediately struck me about 'Texas' was how different it sounded to me, and I'm always trying to push myself,” Shelton said in a statement. “I think there's something very special about this record and it's important to me.”
To date, Shelton has scored 29 No. 1 Billboard Country Airplay hits, most recently with the Post Malone collaboration “Pour Me a Drink.” “Texas” marks Shelton's first solo radio release since his own song “No Body” reached the top 20 on the Country Airplay chart in 2022. (He earned a Top 40 Country Airplay hit with his collaboration with Gwen Stefani “Purple Irises” earlier this year.)
“This is the perfect opportunity to come back with something so different and I just felt like it should be the first single,” Shelton continued. “It ties in with what I've been doing, but I'm moving on at the same time, and it's the perfect start to the next chapter of my career.”
Meanwhile, Shelton also recently revealed that he's partnered up Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan for the upcoming music competition series The Road. The series will give aspiring musicians the chance to tour with an artist who has yet to be named a star, taking their music on the road and competing to build a fan base in each city on the tour.
