Sinead O'Connor died of natural causes, according to a coroner in London.
A statement said the coroner was “discontinuing his involvement” in O'Connor's death and there would be no further comment.
O'Connor died on July 26 at the age of 56. The singer's family confirmed her death in a statement, but did not disclose the cause of death. “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinead,” her family said. “Her family and friends are devastated and have asked for privacy at this very difficult time.”
Police offered few details at the time, saying the singer was found “unresponsive” at her London home and “pronounced dead at the scene.” Authorities said her death is not being treated as suspicious.
Following her death, tributes to O'Connor poured in from fans including Phoebe Bridgers, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tegan and Sara, Tori Amos and more. Tegan and Sarah recalled seeing O'Connor live just before the Covid-19 lockdown began, saying: “I can't express the absolutely huge impact Sinead O'Connor had on us from childhood to adulthood. Her voice, her mind, her bravery.”
Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Morgan wrote on Instagram: “So honest and sweet and funny, she was talented in ways I'm not sure she fully understood. But Sinead stands alone as a figure from our generation who has always been true to the piercing voice inside and out.”
About a month after her death and several days after her funeral, O'Connor's family released a statement thanking everyone from fans to members of the press for their support and for respecting the family's wishes for privacy.
“We thank the media at large at home and abroad for celebrating Sinéad with songs and stories while respecting the privacy requested by the family. We ask that this privacy continue to be respected.”
The statement continued: “Finally, we would like to thank Sinéad's fans and admirers for the wonderful funeral service they gave her beyond her old home in Bray and for the national and international outpouring of love and affection for Sinéad from the moment he died. The prayers and thanks of the extended O'Connor family are with you.”
